Stargazing in Elqui Valley / Vicuna (Gabriela Mistral Dark Sky Sanctuary) (2026)
Bortle 2 · International Dark Sky Sanctuary (DarkSky International)
🌠 Geminids 2026 — watchable from the Southern Hemisphere too. Unlike the Perseids, the Geminid radiant is far enough north of the celestial equator to remain genuinely visible south of the equator, just at reduced rates. The shower peaks the night of Dec 13–14 under a dark, moon-free sky; the best window here runs midnight through dawn, facing generally north toward Gemini. Before you go: Valley towns (Vicuna, Pisco Elqui) freely accessible at night. From this site, expect roughly 30–60 meteors an hour at peak from a dark site. December is summer here, so no cold-weather gear needed — just the usual dark-sky basics. Full Geminids 2026 guide →
